Comments from Students in Leadership Edge Training Programs
I would recommend the class to other Duke students because I think that the kind of directed, focused leadership you teach would have a positive impact on many Duke organizations. I wish that I had taken the class sooner such that I could put more things into practice at Duke; I would definitely encourage younger students to take it as well.

The class gave me a lot of knowledge that I otherwise would have never known. It was also a very compelling inspiration to apply that knowledge in the world. I think that the class format was good because it allowed us to apply what we had learned throughout the rest of the week.

The assignments were great; they really brought application to what we were learning.

It was a great mix of lecture and small group discussions. The amount of people was ideal as well. The speakers were dynamic and thoughtful and the 2 scenarios/cases were well selected.

During the training program given by Leadership Edge Inc, I was able to focus more attention on my own morals and values and really consider what part they play in my professional life and career as a Health Administrator. Though ethical decision-making is touched upon in other courses, we do not have ample time to divulge in this important subject to the extent to which this course has allowed. Through class discussions, I was also exposed to other ethical issues and concerns that I had never considered. Learning from both the instructor and my other classmates has helped me to expand my values and develop my personal ethics statement, while learning of new ways to incorporate ethics into my work and everyday life.

Leadership Edge made me aware of the issues in leadership and relationships in which I had struggled, but had never even considered as problems. This program has changed my outlook when relating to and leading others and been one of my most beneficial Duke experiences.
And that is the beauty of Leadership Edge. It awakens minds that have grown complacent in satisfaction. My fraternity brothers are not lacking materially. They have a thousand outlets for pleasure and relaxation. Yet on some level they also have a desire to stand up and be leaders – maybe just because they are overachieving Duke students. I don’t know. At some level though, every one of them wants to leave a legacy from the way they lived, but someone has to wake them up from the malaise of complacency and show them life is invigorating and has a purpose. I have never seen anything do that quite like Leadership Edge.
Comments from Former Students on the Ongoing Impact of Leadership Edge Training
LEI Overall:
Having participated in quite a few leadership training programs in corporate America and at the university level, I can confidently say Leadership Edge stands out as real gem by way of its unique focus on training the next generation of leaders as well as striking a unique balance between its foundation on timeless principles -- yet timely application to the issues of the day. I know of no other organization in the country that serves this need so well.
Life is hard, and those who have been in leadership positions know that living a life of influence and leading well is no exception. Yet, participating in Leadership Edge has made a significant difference in my life. It has changed the way I see my role as a leader in various walks of life and has given me practical tools and encouragement to personally grow in a leadership lifestyle philosophy.
Quality:
The quality of leadership training services provided by Leadership Edge is both rigorous in its design and customized to the needs of participants. Every time I am involved with an LEI event or program, I always come away feeling like I can hang my hat on some big ideas and important principles that I can work on to become a better leader.

I know a number of students who have been mentored through Leadership Edge at Duke. Each of them is marked by a high commitment to both morality and character. The influence of Leadership Edge in their lives and development is striking.

The biggest challenges I face on a daily basis involve how to treat people: particularly customers and project teams. Leadership Edge's principles encourage me to focus on doing what is right instead of only what is relevant to my goals. Treating others as you wish they would treat you is not only a virtue, but it is the only way to steer the ship (unless you want to paddle alone!). Most importantly, Leadership Edge also develops the courage to do what is right, not just marching orders.

As I have been in the Army for five years now, I appreciate even more how important leadership training is. Many lessons must be learned by actually leading, but so many character traits can be taught. These traits then will be such a valuable tool to help young leaders make decisions and lead effectively. Thank you for training and teaching these lessons.
